Corporate Capital Raises 2019–2026 — cover

How this dataset was acquired. Every row comes from the Radar API, Fliar's company-data API and MCP server. Radar reads business news continuously and extracts each corporate capital raise into structured fields: the company, the instrument (equity issue, debt, private placement, rights issue, convertible, debentures or preference shares), the amount, the investors or lenders and the date. It then links the company to its record in a database of five million companies. This release covers January 2019 to June 2026 and complements Fliar's startup funding datasets, which leave these instruments out. Repeat reports of one raise are merged, venture rounds and capital-spending announcements are dropped, and every amount is checked against the sentence it was read from. Each row names the article it was read from (news_source, news_url) and quotes the sentence (news_excerpt). A company's full, continuously updated funding history is available through POST /v1/companies/funding (reference) or the get_company_funding MCP tool.

This file is a 30% sample: 5,000 of 16,402 capital raises. It keeps every record for a fixed subset of companies. The subset is chosen by a hash, so it stays the same from one release to the next. The findings and tables below were computed on the full data. For the rest, the withheld fields and monthly updates, get a Radar API key (docs). Each row's fliar_profile_url opens the company's full profile on Fliar.

Method

  1. Extraction. Radar's pipeline reads each article about a corporate capital raise and extracts structured fields, including the source sentence.
  2. Instruments. The extracted type is normalised into seven instruments. When the sentence names a more specific instrument (rights issue, debentures or NCDs, convertible notes, preference shares, private placement, preferential allotment or QIP) that wins. Grants, IPOs and untyped rows are dropped.
  3. Scope. Rows whose sentence does not describe raising capital are dropped, as are capital-spending announcements (a plant, a facility, an outlay) that carry no raise language, investment-fund raises (a separate dataset) and hypothetical needs ("would require raising"), and equity rows without explicit raise language (pledges to invest in a country or project). Venture rounds (seed, angel, Series A–H) are dropped because the startup funding datasets cover them.
  4. Company links. A website whose company record matches neither the reported name nor the domain is treated as a mis-link: the reported name is kept and the domain is left blank.
  5. Deduplication. Per company, reports of the same instrument within 45 days of a raise's first report, or of the same amount (within 5%) within 180 days, are one raise. Raises filed under name variants without a shared website (for example a name and its initials) merge when country, instrument and amount (within 1%) match within 180 days.
  6. Amount check. Each amount is compared with the money figures parsed from its source sentence (tolerance 0.6–1.7×). verified matched; unchecked had no parseable figure; failed_check is blank because it did not match, was a bare number under 10,000, was over US$2B without a match, over US$5B from one article or for a company without a matched company record, or over US$25B; not_disclosed had no amount.
  7. Currency. US dollars, from the stored conversion or at fixed approximate rates. In Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay (and the Jamaican and Trinidad dollar) a bare "$" is read as the local peso unless the sentence says US dollars.
  8. Investors. lead_investor is the first named investor that reads as an organisation (it has a website or an organisation word in its name); individuals are never published. Promoters and the company itself are excluded.
  9. Bulk back-fills. Days carrying more than five times the usual number of reports (archive back-fills stamped with an ingest date rather than the publication date) are dropped.
  10. Dates. The date is the earliest report's publication date; rows before 2019 or after June 2026 are dropped.

  11. Sample. Each companie key is ranked by sha1(key). Keys are taken in rank order until the file holds max(25%, 5,000) rows (capped at 100,000).

  12. Profile links. Links are built from Fliar's company index and checked against it. A row whose company has no public profile has an empty link.

Limitations

  • Derived from news: unreported raises are missing, and coverage favours large, English-reported companies and India, where exchange filings are widely reported.
  • Debt covers loans, bonds and credit facilities alike; an announced facility may not be fully drawn.
  • The instrument comes from a classifier and keyword rules; some raises are mis-typed.
  • Some companies have no website match, so company_domain is blank and the name is as reported.
  • Sector labels come from a company classifier, or the reported sector when the company is not matched.
  • news_source and news_url are blank when the article could not be retrieved at release time.
